PRE-STAR for Teams

Get your team out of their own heads.

Your players have the talent. What’s holding them back is the pressure they’re carrying — the overthinking, the fear of failing, the weight of everyone’s opinions. PRE-STAR is a short, proven program that teaches an entire team to set that burden down and play like themselves again. Three sessions. About a week. A noticeably different locker room.

The thing you can see

A talented group that’s tight, overthinking, and not having fun.

You can see it: the talent is there, but the team is gripping — playing not to lose, quiet in the room, and there is a losing record that only makes it worse. Today’s athletes carry something earlier generations didn’t. I call it Outcome Fever — judging themselves by stats, likes, and other people’s opinions instead of who they are.

It’s no way to live, and no way to play a sport. The good news: it’s fixable. Teach players the emotional skills underneath it, and they loosen up, connect, and perform. Here’s the full method

What it is

A focused program that walks a team through seven steps.

Players learn to get Present, Realize who they really want to be, Expand their comfort zones, Slow Time (and the phones), Acknowledge Outcome Fever and their personal “gremlins,” and build it into a practice they Repeat — the depth lives on the method page.

How it works

Three sessions. Structured, concrete, and built to stick.

This is what you’re actually bringing in — a clear arc your players move through together, plus support that keeps it going after I leave.

1 Session One

Relief — they’re not alone

We warm up the room with laughter, connection, and sharing, then open up Outcome Fever — and players feel immediate relief realizing they’re not the only one. The team starts a daily “anchor” program and a group chat to keep it going.

2 Session Two

Real goals & presence

We talk real goals and dreams — theirs, not their parents’ or society’s — build in habits of presence, and each player lists concrete ways to expand their comfort zones.

3 Session Three

A plan they own

We compare notes on how being more present, connected, and confident actually feels — and each player writes a Personalized Presence Plan for their season and beyond.

A peer support network

Players keep lifting each other long after the sessions end — the momentum is the point.

Two months of follow-up

Office hours — virtual or in person — so the habits hold once the season’s pressure is real.

Why the group works

Doing this together is the point.

The group creates mutual support and momentum — and because giving helps the giver as much as the receiver, lifting a teammate is one of the best ways for an anxious player to get out of their own head. I also soften players in order to harden them: connection and a little vulnerability make a tougher, more trusting team, not a softer one.

Coaches consistently tell me they learn more about their players in these three sessions than in a season.

The Ten Lenses

How I look at an athlete.

When I work with athletes, I look through ten lenses — and you’ll notice they are all about a whole life, not just a game.

A sports psychologist focuses on how to fix the missed shot. I’m after why it’s being missed — because players don’t choke in a vacuum. Fix the why, and the performance follows.
